The king monkey sat quietly on a large branch at the top of the tallest tree. From there, he could see his entire family playing, eating, and resting below. He had been the leader of the monkey troop for many years. He protected them from danger, guided them to food, and kept peace among the group. However, the king monkey was growing old and knew it was time to choose a new leader.
One afternoon, he called a young monkey to sit beside him. The young monkey was brave, kind, and respected by the others. The king monkey looked at him with wise eyes and said, “Tomorrow, you will become king of this troop.”
The young monkey was surprised and nervous. He had never imagined becoming the leader so soon. “Me?” he asked. “Are you sure I am ready?”
The king monkey smiled gently. “Yes, you are ready. I have watched you help others, share food, and protect the younger monkeys. A true king is not the strongest monkey. A true king is the one who cares for everyone.”
The young monkey listened carefully to every word. He knew this was a great responsibility. The king monkey then placed a hand on his shoulder and said, “Promise me something, okay? Promise me that you will always protect our family, be fair to everyone, and never use your power selfishly.”
The young monkey nodded with determination. “I promise,” he replied.
The next morning, all the monkeys gathered together. The old king proudly introduced the young monkey as their new leader. The troop cheered happily. As the young king looked around at his family, he remembered his promise and vowed to lead with wisdom, courage, and kindness for many years to come.
